Overseas Licence Conversions
Immigrants to NSW may need to undertake a driving test within 3 months of their arrival as permanent residents. Overseas visitors from Western Europe, Canada, USA, Japan,
Singapore and New Zealand, do not need to sit a Knowledge Test
or Driving Test to convert to a NSW car licence.
Arrivals from other countries need to sit both a Knowledge and Driving Test.
All overseas licences in foreign languages will need to have an official English translation. Any overseas licences which have been held for less than 3 years
will necessitate the issuing of P plates.
Most overseas heavy
vehicle drivers will need to sit a knowledge and driving test
to upgrade to a higher class after obtaining their car licence. We have a great track record of assisting overseas licence holders to convert to the NSW licence. Even drivers with limited knowledge of English can still be taught successfully and quickly.
