Older Drivers Seniors

It is true that we are now living longer on average than in the past and there is an ever increasing older driver percentage on our roads. From the age of 80, drivers need to pass a medical examination every year, in order to remain on the road. From the age of 85, drivers need to sit a driving test annually, to prove to the RTA that they are still competent. This process can be quite stressful, as it threatens the drivers’ independence and quality of life. Most applicants do not drive as well under pressure. However, if they have the knowledge and skill to do the job, the stress will be greatly reduced.

Whilst it is probably true that most older drivers should seriously consider retiring from driving, there are nevertheless, many remaining, who are still quite capable and indeed pose no threat to the general public. These are the drivers who are not yet ready or willing to move into Nursing Homes and we can certainly assist them in maintaining their present lifestyle and independence. Our record of keeping satisfied older drivers “on our books” is second to none. We provide the patience and expertise to enable older drivers to hone their skills and continually satisfy the RTA testing standards. In fact, many of our long term clients are now driving better in their nineties than they were in their eighties.

Our lessons come with a free list of handy tips for older drivers, which most find invaluable for test preparation.
